Thinking of booking a trip to Iceland? Discover Reykjavík and learn all about this captivating city

The Landnámabók ('Book of the Settlements') states that the first settler in Iceland was 'Naddodd the Viking' in 830 AD. It is written that he discovered the country after being blown off course en route to the Faeroe Islands.
Rich in Viking history, Iceland is an enticing country which attracts more than two million visitors a year.
Not a bad place to stumble upon if you ask me! This is a truly enchanting part of the world, and if you're interested in learning more about the origins of Iceland then I would recommend a trip to the National Museum of Iceland. Bursting with ancient artefacts and exciting exhibitions, this is a great way to immerse yourself in Icelandic culture.

The architecture in Reykjavík is unique, and I found out that the majority of buildings were reconstructed after a devastating fire blasted through the city in 1915.
You'll find colourful buildings in the style of traditional Swiss chalets, alongside plenty of modern designs throughout the town centre. If this is something you'd like to explore, why not take yourself on a walking tour and find iconic buildings such as: Hallgrimskirkja Church, Althingi Parliament House, and Harpa Concert Hall And Conference Centre.

For such a small country, Iceland has an explosive art and music scene. Hundreds of festivals and events are hosted every year, which makes sense really if you consider how much the locals enjoy camping and the great outdoors. Music is a big draw for tourists and international headliners alike; the top large-scale festivals are: Sónar Reykjavík (February), Secret Solstice (June), Iceland Airwaves (November).
